space for the will of peaceful unification

The National Memorial for Korean War Abductees is a space to recognize the yet unsettled issue of the abductees as a problem of the present, not the past. The National Memorial will enhance the interest of South Koreans in the abduction issue, comfort the abductees and their families, and shed new lights on a heartbreaking chapter in the history of the Republic of Korea.

The National Memorial is expected to serve as a forum to remember each one of the abductees, who were citizens of the Republic of Korea and our precious family and neighbor, and to solve the problem of the abduction in a future-oriented way. This is also a place to look back on the agony of the abductees and their families, who have suffered social misunderstanding and distancing on top of forfeiting the right to live with their family members, which is the most basic human right, and to think about the future of the Republic of Korea.

We hope the National Memorial, which bears the sorrow of war and division, will be a place to look back on the history of the abduction from 25 June 1950 to this day and to reconsider the value of peace and the meaning of unification of South and North Koreas.
